Help and answers

Straight answers about recording runs, following plans, the free tier and the paid subscription, so you can start training without guessing.

Questions people ask us

These are the questions we hear most from new and returning athletes. If yours is not here, write to us through the contact page and Meera will reply.

  1. Is Strava really free to use?

Yes. The free tier covers the basics, including recording your runs and rides and looking back at how your week went. A paid subscription opens the full plan catalogue and the extra features. You can stay on the free tier for as long as you like, and nothing is taken from you automatically.

  2. Which phones does the app work on?

Strava is built Android-first, and Rohan's team tests run tracking on everyday phones, not only expensive ones. Keep your phone's location setting on while you record and allow the app to run in the background. If tracking drops out mid-run, write to us with your phone model so we can look into it.

  3. I have never run before. Where should I begin?

Start with Run Your First 5K. It begins with short walk-run intervals and builds gradually to a full 5K, so you are never asked to do more than the week before prepared you for. Ananya, our running coach, writes and reviews the plan so that beginners can actually finish it.

  4. Will the plans make me train every single day?

No. Plans such as Train Smarter, Not Harder place hard sessions between rest days so your body can recover and you build fitness without burning out. If a week goes badly because of work, travel or a cold, pick the plan up again where you left off instead of trying to make up for lost time.

  5. How long are the workouts, and do I need a gym?

Sessions under Workouts That Fit Your Day run from 15 to 45 minutes, and you can do them at home, in a gym or outdoors. Your Body, 8 Weeks uses gym and bodyweight sessions, with clear weekly sessions and progress check-ins. Many people simply need a mat, a bottle of water and a free half hour.

  6. How do the daily habit goals and reminders work?

Build a Daily Habit lets you set small daily goals and reminders, such as a ten-minute walk or a short stretch. The idea is to make exercise a routine you can keep, so start with a goal that feels almost too easy. You can raise it later when the habit has settled in.

  7. How do I pay for the subscription, and can I cancel?

Subscription prices and billing details are listed on the Prices page, and the terms for stopping a subscription and getting money back are in our Payment and Refund Policy. If you are unsure about a charge on your account, write to Meera through the contact page with the date and amount, and she will look into it for you.

  8. What happens to my location and activity data?

Your routes, pace and distances are used to show you your own training history. The Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we keep it and how you can ask us to correct or remove it. If you have a specific worry, write to us and we will answer in plain words.
